what bloggers do on their day off

We get together and do projects we can both blog about!
Erin, my long-time pal and author of the food blog No Love More Sincere, finally got a day off work, so we got together and did this flavored salt project we'd been dying to do for months. Mmmmm foodie crafts....

I found a new box of these shorty canning jars out thrifting a few weeks ago and knew they'd be perfect for this.
The project is basically just running some salt through a food processor along with a flavor ingredient. Couldn't be easier. Here's our flavors ready for a long low drying bake in the oven

We made candied ginger salt, mango, bacon mango, garden herb, and lime. Next time we're doing lavender, matcha and wasabi flavors. We're also going to do salted caramels with these over top, and we're thinking a good Philly soft pretzel day is in order to showcase them too. Yeah, we're into the salts this summer. It's a fun easy project and really is delicious on everything.

I sought out the French grey sea salt that he suggests in the video and it really is worth the hunt and not expensive at all. They have it a Trader Joe's for about $5 if you're looking. The rest of the ingredients we had on hand, and we made plans to track down the more special flavors for next time (anyone know where to get matcha in Philly?) So this goes down as a really inexpensive fancy foodie DIY. The flavors you choose can make it $$, especially if you're after something like truffle salt. But a simple sliced lime is really wonderful. Candied ginger i think is my favorite so far.

We used these printable vintage labels to make our lids pretty

We tried them on fresh sliced tomatoes, strawberries and chicken breast. Here's bacon-mango on tomato:

The ingestion of so much salt required the ingestion of a good amount of alcohol, and Erin had this amazing limited ed. Absolute Boston for us to try. I'm not sure what elderflower and black tea have to do with Boston - well the tea part I suppose I get - but man is it tasty over lemonade.

Highly recommended for summer beverages.
