pest

Do you see him?

p

This bastard ate my entire giant basil plant in a day. I've tried to find out about him online, but no luck so far. I photographed him extensively - you know, for science. Scientists should click the pictures to view them fullscreen.
The leaf-shaped body is actually wings - yeah he flies. And yeah, he's dead now. I couldn't do it. I know it's just an insect, but after photographing him I felt it was kind of like killing a bird. But it had to be done. My old Ukrainian neighbor did it for the sake of all of our gardens.

++EDIT++

Dawn is right, it's a katydid. I will admit I thought a katydid was a kind of bird.

He's a member of the Katydid family, or a Green Leaf bug (duh)...

Ahhhh, poor thing. Get a preying mantis for your garden. They snack on those things.

Thanks Dawn! He was indeed a Katydid.
AJ-I think Corny would eat a praying mantiss and that would make me sad.
